Favorite Pets Poll

What to do:

  1. Ask a group of four children which they like best, dogs, fish, or cats.
  2. Write each child’s name in the box next to the animal she or he likes best.
  3. Count the number of names in each row. Write the number in the last box in the row.
  4. Then say to the children, “Which animal is the favorite? Which animal is their least favorite?”
  5. Explain that favorite means the animal with the most names (biggest number in the box).

Variations:

  • Use more animals or different animals.
  • Have all children participate by raising their hands when you ask which they like best.
  • You may have to remind some children to only vote for one favorite animal.
