Dried Fruits and Vegetables
What to do:
- Depending on ages, ask children to peel and slice fruits and/or vegetables that are in season: apples, grapes, oranges, peaches, tomatoes, etc.
- Spread the slices out on absorbent paper such as paper towels.
- Allow the slices to dry for a few days, creating dried vegetables and fruits that can be added to snacks prepared by the children.
- If available, use an apple slicer/corer that can be bought in kitchen departments of stores. Or ask parents if they have an apple peeler slicer that children can use.
- Dehydrators are fun to use too and come with trays for the fruits to rest on as they dry.
- Children under 3 years should not be allowed to use sharp cutting knives without supervision. Grapes should be cut in halves/quarters for children under 3.
