Dried Fruits and Vegetables

What to do:

  1. Depending on ages, ask children to peel and slice fruits and/or vegetables that are in season: apples, grapes, oranges, peaches, tomatoes, etc.
  2. Spread the slices out on absorbent paper such as paper towels.
  3. Allow the slices to dry for a few days, creating dried vegetables and fruits that can be added to snacks prepared by the children.
  4. If available, use an apple slicer/corer that can be bought in kitchen departments of stores. Or ask parents if they have an apple peeler slicer that children can use.
  5. Dehydrators are fun to use too and come with trays for the fruits to rest on as they dry.
  • Children under 3 years should not be allowed to use sharp cutting knives without supervision. Grapes should be cut in halves/quarters for children under 3.
