Colored Celery

What to do:

  1. Place single stalks of celery, leaves and all, stalk side down into a cup with water an inch or two deep.
  2. Ask children to add a few drops of food coloring into the water, and allow the stalks to sit.
  3. Check after half an hour or so to see how the colored water is being carried around in the celery.
  4. Link these observations to veins and blood in people.
  5. The wild flower Queen Anne’s Lace can also be used if it’s summer.
